Is The BMI (Body Mass Index) Chart Outdated?
According to this gal… Abso-friggin-lutely!
Back in 2014, I published a blog post titled “This Is What OVERWEIGHT Looks Like”.
It shared my thoughts on the outdated BMI scale. Those thoughts haven’t changed.
I encourage you to CLICK HERE to read it (it’s short, sweet, and to the point… Just like me!).
Years later, and another baby later, I look back fondly at how slim I was at “overweight” (Ha!).
You see now, my friends, I am considered borderline obese.
No longer on the cute lower end of “overweight”.
I’m one all-inclusive vacation away from officially joining the “obese” category.
And you know what? I don’t care.
I AM HAPPY AND FEEL HEALTHY
I still enjoy several fitness classes a week (I love working out).
I still enjoy great food (because life is too short for bad food).
Life is about balance and enjoyment. Not labels.
If the BMI chart wants to label me as borderline obese, so be it.
- It doesn’t change my fitness level.
- It doesn’t change my happiness.
- It doesn’t change my confidence.
The BMI formula was created in the 1800’s and I consider it completely irrelevant nowadays. It should definitely be updated. In the meantime, let’s disregard it, shall we?
Here is another great article I found, worth a read: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=106268439
